Day 22 - Glacier National Park - July 6th, 2025
For me, Glacier National Park conjures up visions of huge walls of bluish ice. I don’t recall seeing pictures to prove any differently. However, the actual glacial ice is few and far between, and the park, like many others, is huge. The good news is, the scenery and views were spectacular and probably impressed me more than any other park we visited on this trip. We took a road called “Going To The Sun”, which provided a variety of different scenes and landscapes.
In the lowlands, you have a beautiful bluish-green river with a colorful stone bottom winding through the valley. We spotted two black bear meandering in the willow brush, and they weren’t too interested in posing for us.
Gripping video, isn’t it?
After a considerable number of miles following the stream, we started climbing in elevation on a winding road with plenty of overlooks. I took a lot of pictures and with the small thumbnails I see when I add them here, I can’t tell which ones are the best so bear with me.
The kids even had a chance to play on some snow.
Nothing scary about that old stone bridge, is there?
Higher and higher we drove, heading toward the peak. Finally, we found the only spot in this section of the park where you could see a glacier (without having to hike).
That snow at the center of the picture is where the glacial ice is, and if it wasn’t covered with snow, you might see a bluish icy color. Still cool to see.
We turned around at this point and started the long journey back down. Before leaving the peak, we spotted some mountain goats.
This is my kind of national park. I would have loved to wet a line in the beautiful stream, but we just didn’t have the time. It’s good to make notes of which places are worth spending more time at, in the event we get a chance to do this again in years to come. For me, Glacier National Park is top of that list.
