Day 3 - Arches National Park - June 17, 2025

 We are off the grid, just north of Moab UT and Arches National Park. Started off the day with a 1 mile round trip hike to see the Window Arch. Thought we’d pick that one because it might have a breeze. Sorry, dad joke. The heat is no joke though. Nearly 100 today, but it’s a dry heat. 

Kids played in a creek today. Might have a few pics of that tomorrow. Took a ride this evening through the park to see the sunset. 

Ironically, the land we’re staying for free on is part of the BLM (Bureau of Land Managment) public lands. There’s a lot of those out here. If Trump’s “big beautiful bill” passes, we might not be able to stay here next time, as it includes a 3 million acre sell off of public lands across a handful of western states, and it has an amendment that would allow up to 258 million acres to be sold on top of that. Fun times. 

Not to end on a downer, we had the most delicious steak kabobs tonight. Turns out, Ohio beef tastes even better in Utah.

may the breeze would be better there since it’s a window.  Sorry, dad joke. Anyway, came back, cooled the camper down as much as possible, took naps, I worked for a bit then took a sunset drive through the park.

Day 4 - Arriving at Zion - Wed, June 18

 Today was a roaster. Blisteringly hot in Moab and only slightly cooler near St George. After 6 hours on the road getting there, we were rewarded with a nice dispersed camping site on public land, with incredible views. The temperature however, did not give any relief as it was well over 100 degrees. The generator continued to get a healthy workout, even though the AC could barely keep up.  Liz and kids went off to the nearby Virgin River to try to get cooled down. I stayed back and got a lot of work done that had come in through out the day. Now, the stars are out and I’ve already seen a few shooting across the relatively dark sky.  Tommorow, we’ll get up and go into Zion National Park, before the heat reaches its peak. Luckily, a campsite opened up tonight in the park for tommorow night, so we jumped on reserving that. It will be right on the river, which will at least provide some relief from tbe heat.
