Day 5 - Exploring Zion - Thu, June 19

We had a great day today, despite the heat and me throwing out my lower back. Thankfully some meds helped me be able to walk a bit this morning to a place we visited the first time we were here in 2018. It was nerve wracking to watch the kids scale a very inclined slab of solid rock back then, and it was the same now. But life is for the living and thankfully, they stayed among the living.

Came back to the campsite and decided to go for a swim in the creek that borders the site. (Actually the Virgin River). It was cold and fairly clear and was giving off major trout stream vibes. Supposedly, there are a few stocked ones in there. Either way, this hole was over my head in the middle which made for a safe jump off the bank.

My back was feeling pretty mobile but laying down for an hour after getting back was a mistake. Woke up in intense pain and could barely hobble around. Tonight’s been a little better. Must rest it for the next few days so I can get past this.

Enough whining… We capped the night off with a drive through the canyon in the evening hours enjoying the incredible views.  If you had to give hierarchy to National Parks in Utah (of which there is FIVE!) Zion is better than Arches, in my book. We were lucky to get a spot in the campground. It’s booked out til November but we managed to score on a cancellation for one night. You couldn’t find a prettier spot.

Starting with campsite from last night above, just outside Zion.

Now here’s Zion pictures.
